Sioux City, Iowa

Like many other cities, Sioux City was first inhabited by Native Americans. Europeans first came into the area around the 19th century. Theophile Bruguier was the first white settler of the area. It was officially established Sioux City in 1854. The first railroad arrived in the city in 1868, followed by a few factories and a meat packing plant. The most rapid change took place in between 1880 & 1890.
As of 2000, Sioux City’s population was more than 143,000 residents. Its climate is generally mild except for the summer months when it can become quite warm. Some places of interest include the Stone State Park, the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center, KD Station, Grandview Park, Sergeant Floyd Monument, First Bride’s Grave, War Eagle Park, the Sioux City Public Museum and the Sioux City Art Center.
